Introduction

Over the past few months I've been introduced to new concepts and ways of thinking when it comes to making a sustainable building. There's so many different ways in which a building can be optimized to:

• have the right thermal properties, 
• minimize its carbon footprint 
• use less energy and have the other traits characteristic of a 'green building'.

This made it difficult to fix on just one topic. The different techniques that I should consider when designing a building all seem to be interrelated.

So I decided to look a little deeper into the city of Sydney, its climatic conditions and the challenges that a building constructed here would have to overcome. This helped me decide on my topic which is Insulation.
