1) Planting deciduous trees around the home

BENEFITS

• Walls will be well shaded in the summer preventing unnecessary heat gain.
• During winter, the leaves will fall off allowing the house to be warmed by the winter sun.
• The trees would also buffer the oncoming winds, improving the insulating capacity of the walls.

2) Installing a green roof

BENEFITS

• Mitigates the urban heat island effect
• Helps insulate the ceiling
• Has low emissivity, therefore blocks heat transfer by radiation
• Covers the dark tiles below
